Warm Coconut Milk with Mulling Spices
Ingredients
2½ cups Almond Milk
2 cups Coconut Milk
3 pieces Star Anise
3 Cinnamon Sticks
6 Whole Cloves
1 tablespoon Black Peppercorns
3 pieces of Ginger, peeled and sliced (¼ inch)
Zest from 1 large Orange, peeled into long strips
Pinch of Cayenne (optional as garnish)
Nutmeg, freshly grated (as garnish)
Directions
1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together almond and coconut milk and set aside
2. In a double-layer piece of cheesecloth, combine star anise, cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns, ginger, and orange zest
3. Enclose spices together in cheesecloth by tying ends together with twine
4. Place spice bag in milk mixture and bring to a boil over medium-high heat
5. Quickly reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally
6. Serve hot sprinkled with nutmeg and/or cayenne
